Greener Roofing & Solar, honored with a mayoral proclamation earlier this year for donating a hurricane-code roof to a Palmetto Bay nonprofit, explains what to check after storm season and what Florida law says about older roofs and insurance renewals.
Palmetto Bay, Florida, United States, October 31, 2026 -- The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30, and Greener Roofing & Solar is urging Miami-Dade homeowners to check their roofs now, while there is still time to plan repairs and insurance paperwork before the 2027 season.
Earlier this year, Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham presented a proclamation to Maycol Delgado, Greener's founder and president, after the company donated a $30,000 roof replacement to Be Strong International, a nonprofit that serves more than 16,000 South Florida families each year. The new roof on the organization's Palmetto Bay headquarters was built to Miami-Dade's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) standards.
"The weeks after hurricane season are when you can actually do something about your roof," Delgado said. "A problem found in November is a repair. The same problem found after next year's first storm is usually a ceiling, an insurance claim and a much bigger bill."
A post-season roof checklist for Miami-Dade homeowners
Greener recommends that homeowners take six steps before the end of the year:
Florida law protects homeowners on that last point. Under Section 627.7011 of the Florida Statutes, an insurer may not refuse to issue or renew a policy solely because of the age of a roof that is less than 15 years old. For a roof 15 years or older, the homeowner may have it inspected by an authorized inspector, and if the inspection shows at least five years of useful life remaining, the insurer may not refuse or nonrenew the policy solely because of the roof's age.
When a roof with solar panels does need to be replaced, Greener handles the whole job, including detaching and resetting the solar system. Its crews test and label the system before removal, store the panels during the roof work, then reinstall them on the new roof with HVHZ-rated mounting hardware and new flashing, reconnect the monitoring and run a final production test. Because one company handles both the roof and the solar work, homeowners avoid coordinating two contractors and the finger-pointing that can follow a leak.

China has broken up a major transnational drug trafficking network in cooperation with Indonesia and Malaysia, seizing around 1.2 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine, China’s Ministry of Public Security said on Friday. Transnational drug syndicates in the Philippines continue to thrive despite decades of crackdowns targeting street-level dealers, with analysts warning that regional suppliers, financiers and trafficking networks have largely eluded enforcement efforts. Former drug officials and security analysts say the country’s drug trade remains closely connected to a wider regional supply chain, with criminal groups relying on local partners, maritime routes and established distribution networks to move...

Indonesia is looking beyond Singapore for petrol supplies as it seeks to reduce its dependence on a single source, but analysts say diversifying imports will do little to address the country’s fuel production shortfall without faster refinery modernisation and investment in alternative fuels. Indonesia has long sourced petroleum products from Singapore, including RON 90 petrol, which has a minimum octane rating of 90 and is marketed domestically as Pertalite.
