Hormones act as chemical messengers that regulate essential physiological processes. From the pancreas releasing insulin to the thyroid controlling metabolic rate, hormone changes can affect energy levels. According to Alberta Health, changes in hormone levels can contribute to symptoms such as persistent fatigue, and normal life-stage transitions can also affect hormone levels. Different testing methods provide different types of information, so results need to be considered in the context of what each assessment measures and the patient's broader clinical picture.
Healthflow Naturopathic explains that the DUTCH test uses four to five dried urine samples collected at home at specific times over 24 hours. Depending on the panel, results can include sex hormones and their metabolites, cortisol and cortisone patterns, melatonin, and selected organic acid markers associated with oxidative stress and gut health. Results generally arrive within two to three weeks after the laboratory receives the samples.
The guide lists four panel options: DUTCH Adrenal at $569 CAD, DUTCH Complete at $699, DUTCH Cycle Mapping at $775, and DUTCH Plus at $925. DUTCH Complete, the most commonly ordered panel, measures more than 35 markers, including sex hormones, cortisol patterns, estrogen metabolites, and selected organic acid markers. It also highlights that Cycle Mapping is designed for women with active menstrual cycles, while DUTCH Complete and DUTCH Plus can be used by both men and women, with naturopathic consultation fees charged separately from laboratory testing costs.
According to the guide, DUTCH testing is not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. Extended health plans may cover part of naturopathic consultation fees, but reimbursement depends on individual policy terms and may exclude laboratory costs. Patients are advised to check with their benefits provider before booking.

Filipinos are almost evenly divided over the Marcos administration’s handling of the maritime dispute with China, even as nearly three in four favour diplomacy over confrontation, according to a new survey. That preference has taken on added significance after recent remarks by China’s ambassador to Manila sparked a diplomatic row ahead of November’s Asean summit. The feud underscored the challenge of managing tensions with Beijing, and increasingly hostile rhetoric could make the diplomatic...

Tran Dai Thang spotted two young people who had picked up their drinks at a pop-up cafe beside his travelling bookstore and were about to leave, so he called them over. One of them said they did not read books, Thang recalled. But he kept the conversation going and eventually persuaded the visitor to buy a book for 10,000 dong (US$0.40) – heavily discounted from its original price of 45,000 dong. For Thang, an artist and publisher, the small sale mattered far less than the fact that someone who...
